FALL FUN! PERCH & CRAPPIE

FALL FUN! PERCH & CRAPPIE

The fall season brings a great opportunity to get into some Perch & Crappie fishing.

On Lake Erie in the east basin from Fort Erie to Maitland, good perch fishing happens from late Sept right up into early November when weather allows.

The best areas typically is 45-60 FOW. As the water cools, the action gets better.
You often need to move around to find them and as well to stay with them.
While you can catch them on artificial like small plastics & jigging spoons, there's no doubt that Iive minnows are best. A double drop shot rig or a "pickerel" rig is deadly!

Long Point Bay is another good spot too but obviously your fishing much shallower.

Of course other great perch lakes like Simcoe, Couchiching & St Clair are perch factories too. Live minnows are good but in these spots you can do real well by casting small plastics, like swim baits.

Crappie will start moving in shallow too in many water bodies in southern Ontario.  Particularly marina basins, cuts/canals j& creek mouths are great spots. Using a slip float with a live minnow or a small tube jig are very effective methods.

Get yourself a light to medium light 6-7 ft spinning combo with light line & you'll have a blast.  Fall panfish is a lot of fun. Get out & enjoy.
