FISHING REPORT UPDATE - MAY 27
Lets do a little fishing report update for Lake Ontario (as of May 27 2025)
Yes the last few weeks have been disappointing & frustrating for us all. We had a pretty good April and things were progressing well. Then came lots of wind from the East / North East which wiped out everything It cooled the water down & dispersed things to say the least. As well the weather did not allow for many of actually get on the water very much either!
Lately catches have been made up primarily of Lake Trout & Coho Salmon. But we are finally getting back to some more seasonal weather & with that, the lake temperature is coming back & the Salmon fishing will improve again very soon.
While numbers of Chinook have been lower lately, we are seeing some very nice ones in the mix. The most consistent action has been coming from deeper water using herring (meat) rigs.
As mentioned, there has been good numbers of Coho are being had. They are mostly being caught within the top 20 feet of the surface. Small red or orange dodgers or flashers with little “peanut” flies are working great as well as small spoon in patterns like orange crush, mixed veggies fire tiger & rasta goose.
Lake Trout are being found all over from 70-100 FOW. White & green spoons or flasher & fly combos are going good and you can always use cowbell rigs too.
Seeing a few more Steelhead (Rainbow Trout) showing up too.
So hang tight folks, its going to get very good again soon!
