The Niagara Bar In Winter
One world class fishery we have nearby for the next few months is at the Niagara bar.
If your boat is accessible and when windows of good conditions present themselves, some amazing fishing can be had.
Lake Trout (which season re opened today) are the common catch but there's lots of browns, some walleye, even the odd Salmon and many other potential bonus species.
Winds will dictate the direction of the drift but you can fish with a variety of techniques.
Casting swim baits, bottom bouncing with standard 3 way rigs, or bucktail jigs & jigging spoons are favored. The key is matching the hatch of the buffet of bait that's there. Smelt, emerald shiners, gobies and gizzard shad are all on the menu.
We've got everything you need here to get in on the action.
Play safe out there. If your skeptical, hire a local guide for your first trip. You'll be hooked!
