Weekend Recap! June 27

Weekend Recap! June 27

Hey all!

Some good summer-like weather over the weekend.

Lake Ontario. Well it is interesting times all over the lake currently.

The Lake is definitely setting up into a summer pattern. The good news is we are seeing lots of bait (alwives) inshore in many places. We are also seeing some exceptionally large Kings caught recently too. While many of the larger ones are coming from the east end, some good ones are showing themselves in various ports too. You can also check the Silver Salmon Challenge leaderboarrd for their updates too. There are definitely some good schools of fish in some areas and some empty areas as well. If you mark/catch a couple, mark some way points & stay on them! Still some good Coho being caught but they are much more scattered now. As well there are lots of shakers/skippies (aka small Salmon, 2lbs or less) everywhere. Be diligent in keeping your lines tight to detect them, and please be careful in un-hooking & releasing them.

Over on Lake Erie, there are reports of some large schools of walleye on the move through the central basin to the east. Teams competing in the Bud Walleye Shootout had a tougher time getting fish on Sat but likely due to high sun & flat water. Hearing of some fish coming from deeper water off Maitland & from Fort Erie to Crystal Beach. Worm harnesses been the preferred baits lately. In the central basin, spoons have been better.

And yes Bass season is open! Good action reported all over on Erie & the Upper Niagara River. Tubes, Ned's & drop shot. So far the weather looks pretty good for the week as we approach the Canada Day long weekend & the start of summer vacation for many.

For the kids, dont forget that the St Catharines Game & Fish Association has their Summer long "Virtual Kids Day Fishing Contest" again. Free to enter and you can fish whenever & wherever. All the details for that can be found at :

Have a great week everyone!
