  Fishing Report Update - March 23 Alright let's catch up on things There has been a few decent days over the last week or so, where anglers have been able to get out on Lake Ontario to do some trolling. There's been good numbers of Brown Trout being caught as well as some Atlantic Salmon in the shallows. We're talking 8-20 FOW. As usual, a mix of small stick baits & spoons are working. Alright time to catch up on the fishing! Recently the trout fishing on the Niagara River & Port Dalhousie has been very good. The frozen Lake Erie is keeping the water pretty clean for now. Warm weather & some rain coming soon so things will transition soon. Soon, it will be time to start trolling along the Lake Ontario shores for Brown Trout. Also shore anglers will be able to cast spoons from shore. The launch ramp at Port Dalhousie is open.   One world class fishery we have nearby for the next few months is at the Niagara bar. If your boat is accessible and when windows of good conditions present themselves, some amazing fishing can be had.  Lake Trout (which season re opened today) are the common catch but there's lots of browns, some walleye, even the odd Salmon and many other potential bonus species.  Winds will dictate the direction of the drift but you can fish with a variety of techniques.   Casting swim baits, bottom bouncing with standard 3 way rigs, or bucktail jigs & jigging spoons are favored....

As October is nearly over, it is a good time to see what's all going on now as we're turning the corner now into the late fall period of the season. The Brown Trout & Rainbow Trout (aka Steelhead) are moving in now behind the Salmon in the creeks, rivers & harbors along Lake Ontario. Depending on location, either float fishing or bottom bouncing 3-way rigs will best good techniques. The next few weeks eggs patterns will work best. Whether that is real roe bags, or artificial's like yarn, beads, corkies, etc... Of course minnow /smelt patterns can work too...
